Graphing GALORE!

Hi everyone,

I'm here to show you my new graphing printables!

I'm very excited about this pack simply because I LOVE teaching about graphing :)
It is seriously one of my favorite things to teach! HA! I know... weird but true!

I made 4 different activities for my graphing unit:

Pictograph It
Students cut the pictures at the bottom of this page and paste them in the graph.
They answer the questions to analyse the data.

Spin N Graph
Student use a paper clip to spin and fill in the graph.
They answer the questions to analyse the data.

Read, Tally, & Graph
Students read the story and fill in the graph.
They analyse the data by filling in the missing information.

and last, but not least,
Find, Tally, & Graph
Students use the pictures in the box to complete the tally chart and fill in the graph.

I also made a math word wall with a bunch of graphing words. We have been working hard to develop our math vocabulary so I know this will help my little guys :)

** There are 24 words included in this word wall **

I promise to show you some pictures of these activities in action as soon as we get started :)

Penguins And Polar Bears

Hi everyone,

I’m here to show you what we have been up to in grade one these past couple of weeks.

Last week, we started our penguin unit and we have been enjoying every minute of it!

We continued to learn about different penguin species and we have worked really hard on our fact sheets.

We also found some great words, to describe penguins, for our bubble maps!

We ended our penguins unit with a fun penguin movie, Happy Feet 2!
It was really nice to see my little ones recognize so many different animals in the movie! They were so proud that they knew what the little guy was when the saw the krill! Who knew kids could be so happy to see krill! Hahaha!

This week, we started our Arctic unit. The first animal was the polar bear!
We used our slideshow to learn fun facts about the polar bear. We measured his height on our wall, we stepped back, and looked up in SHOCK!
“He is THAT big, Miss Valerie??” ;)

I used Google images to find close-up pictures of the polar bear’s fur.
What an AMAZING discovery!

We also worked on a Venn diagram, to compare the polar bear to the penguin. My students did a FANTASTIC job at coming up with similarities and differences for the two animals!

I decided to throw in a nice graphing activity this week so we did a class survey on Winter activities!
This had NOTHING to do with polar bears and penguins but it SURE was fun! HA!

The next animal was the puffin and my students were really happy about this one because they remembered the puffin in our movie last week!
**I forgot to take pictures so I'll be sharing them with you in my next blog post!**

I can’t WAIT to start our mini books!

If you like what you see,
you can find my Arctic unit and my penguin unit at my TPT store.

The class survey, bubble map, and Venn diagram activities are from my Skating Penguin Craftivity.

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who purchased my units these past weeks! My penguins unit made it to the top 100 selling items on TPT and I couldn’t be happier! I appreciate everyone’s feedback and I’m excited to know that these units are being used in your classrooms too!

I’ll be back to show you our Arctic centers tomorrow.

Plenty Of Penguins!

Hi everyone,

I'm here to show you what we have been up to this week!
We have been learning all about penguins!!

I asked my students to guess what our theme would be this week... To my surprise, most of their guesses were animals. What surprised me the MOST was that NO ONE guessed penguins!!

When I pulled out this little guy, they all cheered for joy! HA!

Meet Pete the penguin! He has been our classroom mascot for the past week and will remain in our class for the next couple of weeks :)
The kids were so excited about Pete the penguin because they were so sad that Rosie, our elf, left us before the holiday break! I warned them before we left that she would be gone when we came back but they still felt sad when she didn't show up again after break! Pete saved the day!!! ;)

I found this gift bag in the clearance section at Walmart and decided to use it for our penguin theme. I put penguin pictures, with the different species names, in the bag. Every day, Pete lets us grab a paper out of the bag. This way, we never know which penguin we will learn about and it is a surprise every day! This has been SO MUCH FUN!

We have been using my slideshow to learn about the different penguin species.

We also have been using our Smart board to find pictures of the penguins, their predators, and their locations on the world map.
We have also been working hard at filling up our penguin fact pages. The kids keep asking me when they can decorate their cover page! Hehehe! I have a feeling some of these kiddos will be keeping their penguin book for a while ;)

Take a look at our cute little penguin crafts!

Next week, we will continue to learn about more penguin species and we will be starting our mini books!

The kids are getting into this theme WAY more than I could have imagined! They walked out of the building, on Friday afternoon, in a single file and waddling like a colony of penguins! It was priceless :) They sounded like a bunch of ducks all the way down the hall! I loved seeing teachers and staff sticking their heads out of their rooms to see what was going on! It definitely made me happy to know just how much they are loving what they are learning in my class :)

I'll be back next week to show you our second week of penguin fun!

You can find all these penguin activities at my TPT store :)

I'll leave you with a few New Year's resolutions... I just LOVE when kids start to write phonetically!
It is so precious to me ;)
