Using Boom Cards in Your Primary Classroom

When it comes to digital resources, it’s never been more important to have comprehensive and easy-to-use products that are teacher-tested and shown to produce great results!
No matter what your classroom looks like this year, Boom Learning is an engaging platform that you can use across all learning models. Boom Cards are the perfect digital resource for virtual learning, but they can also be used in the classroom for centers, small reading groups, homework, and for early finishers.

What Are Boom Cards?

To explain it simply, Boom Cards are digital task cards that can be used across the curriculum. Kids love them because they are set up like games, and teachers love them because they are self-checking—which means YOU can save time on grading. Because students get instant feedback, these are perfect for distance learning as students work remotely from home.

You’ll love giving your students activities that are self-graded and student-managed so you can save time on paperwork, tech prep, and data collection. You’ll get to spend more time meeting your students where they’re at, building relationships, and increasing their success rather than grading more things.

In case you aren’t already convinced, here are some more benefits you’ll get from Boom Cards:

Boom Cards are paperless!

Save time and stay green. Digital resources are obviously required for distance learning. But for those of us returning to the classroom, functional digital resources are a necessity as well. Including more paperless resources in your traditional classroom will also save you from fighting with the copy machine when it runs out of toner, eats your copies, or gives you those frustrating error messages while you are racing against the bell. Plus, it increases the digital literacy skills that are so important for our kids to build.

Boom Cards are easily accessible

You can use Boom Cards with virtually any device. All you need is an internet connection. You can play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge), or apps are available for Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires.

The format is intuitive and so easy to use that even our youngest little scholars can use them—they’re great for kindergarten and beyond. I’ve even seen some great Boom Card resources for preschoolers!

Booms Cards are an easy way to differentiate your instruction

There will be times you want to review with the whole group on your Smart Board before an assessment, or there may just be a few kids who need extra practice with a concept. Another great feature of Boom Cards is that you can easily assign them to the whole class, or just a handful of kids depending on what needs arise with your students.

How Do I Use Boom Cards?

It is super easy to sign up on the Boom platform, and you can either begin with the free starter version, or look into getting premium features with a paid account.

I recommend starting with the free version! There’s really no obligation to buy because you can use Boom cards in the free version with Fast Pins. Fast Pins are pin numbers that are valid for 5 days for your students to use that self-grade and provide instant feedback. After your pin has expired, you generate a new pin to ensure security.

The paid version offers some handy features like access to student reports, but you can get a ton of benefits from the free version if you want to save some money. If you decide to upgrade, you can find more information on purchasing options, and any up-to-date promotions here.

Here’s a quick how-to if you are using the free option:

1- Log into your teacher account, go to “Library,” and find the deck you want students to use. Select “FastPin” and then“Generate New Pin.”

2- You can either copy and paste the link for student access or go to the main page and select the“FastPlay” button. Enter the pin , select “Play” and you are all set to go!

Where can I find Boom Cards?

I’m so glad you asked! I offer Boom Decks (groups of Boom Cards) for Phonics and Grammar in my TPT store or directly in my Boom Learning store. You can also search TPT for other instructors who have created them for other subjects like math, science, reading comprehension, holidays/seasons and more!

Once you have signed up for an account and purchased the Boom Deck of your dreams, you just download the PDF and open it up.

Add links to your Boom library by clicking on them, or selecting them if you have a touch screen, and they’ll be automatically added to your library.

Get ready to simplify your life and keep your students engaged! This versatile resource is perfect for the challenging learning climate we’ve all been faced with. Your students will love the colorful and fun activities, and you’ll love watching them practice and build their skills with practically zero prep! Win-win for everyone!
